The Minister of Veterans' Affairs, Hon. Craig Foss is sponsoring a competition for year 13 students attending a secondary school in New Zealand.

The Minister of Veterans' Affairs, Hon. Craig Foss is sponsoring a competition to raise awareness of the Battle of Passchendaele. It was on October 12 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele, New Zealand suffered the greatest loss of life in one day in New Zealand history. The competition is open to year 13 students attending a secondary school in New Zealand and can be made in the following media format:

  • Artistic representation
  • Essay, diary, letters
  • Music
  • Poetry
  • Short film
  • Web feature

The intention is for the competitors to submit work that answers the question posed as the theme of the competition "Why should we remember Passchendaële?"

Entries must be submitted by Friday 18 September 2015 and the prize is a $2,000.00 education grant to be presented to the overall winner. More information, including the entry form can be found at www.veteransaffairs.mil.nz/for-veterans/commemorations/passchendaele
