NZ'S FIRST WORLD WAR CENTENARY 2014–2019

Roll of Honour digitisation and history website

Throughout the First World War Centenary, the University of Auckland Libraries and Learning Services will add stories of its Collegians to a specially created website.

Students from Auckland University College in Egypt.

The University of Auckland Libraries and Learning Services has launched the Special Collections First World War centenary website. The centrepiece of the site is the University’s First World War Roll of Honour, which contains information about 720 men and women from the institution who went to war.

Now an archive in the Library’s Special Collections department, the Roll of Honour was digitised to make it accessible to a wide audience.

The digitised Roll can be searched and viewed as page-turning books. The website also features contextual information about the University during that era, the involvement of Collegians in the war and short biographies of a few of the 715 men and five women from the Roll. The website will be enhanced over the centenary to include more stories about Collegians and to explore other aspects of the war and its aftermath, drawing on material from Special Collections and elsewhere.
