'Christmas Truce: Football Remembers' Tournament

'Christmas Truce: Football Remembers' is a 5-a-side Futsal tournament, for 12 to 13 year olds, held on 10 December at the ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie, Wellington.

We would like to invite you to attend the opening of a “Christmas Truce: Football Remembers”. This is a 5–a-side Futsal tournament, for 12 to 13 year olds, to be held on 10 December at the ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie, Wellington.
Around the world, British and German Embassies are marking the Christmas Truce of 1914 when thousands of British, German, French, Indian and Belgian soldiers took part in a spontaneous and informal truce in the front line near Ypres, and played football in No Man’s Land.
In Wellington, we are jointly organising a 5-a-side Futsal tournament at the ASB Arena, to commemorate the Truce. This is not only in conjunction with Wellington City Council, but also WW100, Capital Football, College Sport, NZ Football Association and U20 FIFA representatives, the British Council and English Premier League in the UK.
The focus is, of course, commemoration, but also infused with sport and youth.
There will be 19 boys and girls teams, aged 12 or 13, taking part in the tournament from the Wellington region. The students will each be given a commemorative book featuring stories from the Christmas Truce in 1914.
The tournament opens at 9 am and will be followed by short presentations from the High Commissioner and the German Ambassador. Games will begin at 10 am and will be played until the final at 3.30 pm. The winning teams will be presented with a cup and medals at 4 pm.
