"Armistice 100 - An End to War?" is a public street event on 11 November 2018 organsied by Nelson City Council to commemorate and celebrate the end of the First World War.
This event will be a street party to celebrate the end of the First World War, held at the top of Trafalgar Street with drama, music and food, drink.
Activities happening at Nelson's Armistice100 - An End to War? event include:
- "Histrionics" living history drama group will be presenting their new play "Armistice at Compiegne" based on the signing of the Armistice in a railway carriage in France in 1918.
- Nelson City Brass, street and circus performers, other musicians and poets will be entertaining people for free.
- An art installation of thousands of flax poppies will be created at the event by artists and the local community. Bring your poppies along to add to the artwork.
- The "Wall of Remembrance" will be displayed on a ten metre long banner, showing all the names of those who served in the First World War from Nelson. Come and look for your relatives and friends' relatives names.
The event will be held on the first weekend of Nelson's popular "Summer Street Closure" when cars are removed from upper Trafalgar Street to create large eating and drinking areas, beanbags and planter boxes.
