NZ'S FIRST WORLD WAR CENTENARY 2014–2019

How can you be involved?

100 years ago, communities across New Zealand came together to celebrate peace and remember those lost in its pursuit. The Armistice centenary gives us an opportunity to once again connect as a nation and reflect on the events of the past and our hopes for the future.

  • Join the Roaring Chorus
We want to recreate a roaring chorus of jubilant sound to mark the centenary, and we invite you to join us. It’s easy, find out how.
  • Observe a two-minute silence
A two-minute silence is observed at 11am on 11 November each year, the time the Armistice came into effect. It will be a central part of Armistice Day ceremonies around the world, but anyone, anywhere is encouraged to pause and join this collective moment of reflection
  • Plan your own event or activity
There are events and activities already being planned in communities across the country but there is always room for more. Check out our resources page or current event and activity listings for tips and ideas.
  • Let us know what you have planned
Email us at info@ww100.govt.nz so we can keep you in the loop with wider Armistice commemorations.
Be sure to list your Armistice activity to our website here, or if it's a public event add it to Eventfinda and check the WW100 Tours & Themes box.
Although there is no dedicated funding for Armistice centenary projects through the WW100 Programme, check out our guide to potential funding sources.
  • Attend an Event
There are events happening all over, see our Armistice centenary listings to find an event or activity near you.
