Creating a searchable database of information about Hawke’s Bay fallen and returned First World War servicemen, who are named on rolls of honour and memorials in the region.

At the heart of the Hastings Library programme is an ambitious project to digitise and index all the rolls of honour and cenotaphs in the Hawke’s Bay. This will then be designed into a website and database portal where the public can search for their loved ones according to name, combat destination, place of death or their home town.
This will provide a clear reference for families in the area researching whakapapa and allow further input from the community to ensure details are as comprehensive as possible.
A second database will include details of returned servicemen who settled in Hastings District and are now lying at rest in RSA Service cemeteries.
This will be online from April 1 2015 at hastingsremembers.nz
