The Douai Hockey Club and Le Coquelicot - Following their Footsteps are jointly organising a U15 international youth hockey tournament to mark the First World War centenary.

Wellsford College has been invited to represent New Zealand at the tournament organised by The Douai Hockey Club and Le Coquelicot - Following their Footsteps, which will take place from 4 – 10 April 2014.
The aim of this tournament is to create lasting bonds in an active learning context by promoting the values of sport, respect, peace, intercultural understanding and friendship between the youth of France and the countries which fought in the North-Pas de Calais region during the First World War.
The tournament will be run annually over the four-year centenary period of the First World War (2014-2018). It will last five days every year, including two tournament days, two days of visiting First World War sites and one day devoted to shared commemorative activities. It is open to youth aged twelve to fifteen years in school or club teams. Participants coming from abroad will stay in local host families.
We have extended invitations to teams and schools in Poland, Belgium, Germany, Canada, and the UK, and are seeking participants from Australia, India, South Africa and Morocco as well.
