The volunteers from Rangitikei’s museums (Taihape, Mangakweka, Hunterville, Marton and Bulls), and a local archivist from Turakina are working to digitise their First World War records and create a two-hour long DVD. Many men and women from our communities enlisted or were conscripted into the armed services. The DVD will honour these brave soldiers through sharing their stories, photos, letters and postcards from the war.
Once complete, the DVD will be distributed throughout the District with events in local movie theatres and town halls. Concurrent displays within the museums will encourage people to visit them during the commemorative year and the DVD will be shown during museum opening times and by appointment. It will become a key resource for the museums to show both residents and visitors.
The project will secure the First World War records in perpetuity for future generations to enjoy and learn from.
