Researching the lives of 100 men listed on five Wellington war memorials as "killed" during the First World War, on behalf of the Wellington Branch, New Zealand Society of Genealogists.
The Wellington War Memorials Project is focussing initially on 100 men listed on five Wellington war memorials as "killed" during the First World War. The memorials are in Roseneath, Aro Valley, Brooklyn, Newlands, and Makara.
Once the pilot phase has been completed (during 2014) the project will extend to research the other men listed on the same memorials, and may then move on to other selected memorials around Wellington (of which there are a great many).
The preliminary information is being captured in a searchable dataset (Excel spreadsheet) but other outputs are also under active consideration - development of a website, public presentations, hard copy files, events on specific dates, etc.
Members of the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists are doing the research, coordinated by Barbara Mulligan. Please feel free to make contact about this project on [email protected].
