To commemorate the departure of the Main Body and 1st Reinforcements from Wellington on 16 October 1914, around the centenary of the event the WW100 website hosted two features which displayed the names of all those who left.
The first feature was a tickertape of a random selection of the 8,500 names that ran across the bottom of the website. By clicking on one of the names, or an arrow beside the scrolling names, a fly-out would appear on the page with a comprehensive list of all troops who left, arranged in alphabetical order. A screenshot of this flyout can be viewed below.
WW100 worked with Auckland War Memorial Museum to collect the data from their Cenotaph database. By hovering over the names in the flyout you could see which troopship the troop was listed as sailing on. By clicking their name you would open a link to their entry on Cenotaph.
The second web feature used the same list of names sourced from Cenotaph, and displayed them as names scrolling up a full webpage. This came in two version; black, and white. While the tickertape remained a temporary feature on the site, the two versions of the wall of names will remain as resources that anyone can use by simply opening the links on a browser.
