NZ'S FIRST WORLD WAR CENTENARY 2014–2019

WW100 @ National Digital Forum

23 November 2012

“This week’s National Digital Forum was an excellent opportunity to connect WW100 with those enhancing public access to our digital heritage,” says Programme Office Manager Pip Swaney.
In their presentation, WW100 Web Advisor Virginia Gow and Auckland Museum’s Cenotaph Development Lead Douglas Campbell highlighted some of the work underway in the digital heritage sector and asked, ‘How will you commemorate the centenary of the First World War?’
This war (1914–1918) was one of the most significant events of the 20th century and had a seismic impact on New Zealand’s society.
Pip says she was pleased by the large number of delegates who stopped by the WW100 stand to discuss their plans or to find out how they can contribute to the centenary commemorations.
“A key role of the W100 Programme Office is to help draw connections or add value to ideas and plans already underway, and that was demonstrated over the course of the forum.
“Networks like the National Digital Forum are key to unlocking our past so families, communities and organisations throughout New Zealand can dig into their past to discover their stories - maybe even new truths - about how the war touched them.”
